Millers flying high!

CUP fever is building nicely at New Mills this week, and Tony Hancock’s team couldn’t be in better form ahead of Saturday’s crunch home FA Vase tie against High Peak rivals Glossop North End.

The stakes will be high for both clubs this weekend, not only in terms of local bragging rights, but also due to the fact that the winners will receive £1,000 in prize money.

New Mills warmed up for the derby clash in blistering style last Saturday when they thumped visiting Nelson 6-0, and consequently moved ominously into second place in the North West Counties Premier Division table.

On target on a memorable day for Millers fans were Garry Kharas (2), Peter Band, Carlos Meakin, Joe Shaw and an own goal.

Millers boss Tony Hancock said: "We seem to have turned the corner in our season now.

"In our last three league games we’ve scored 10 goals and conceded none. It’s coming together nicely, we’re on a bit of a roll now."

A bumper crowd of between 600-800 is expected for Saturday’s Vase clash at Church Lane, and Hancock can’t wait for the game.

He added: "We’ll give Glossop respect as Dave Young has got a busy, organised side there, but we’re all looking forward to the game now and we’ll be at full strength.  It’s a massive game for both teams, but we’re all confident right now."

Admission to the ground at New Mills on Saturday will be £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.

Senior Cup win

WOODLEY Sports were without a game on Saturday, but last Thursday night they beat Northwich Victoria 4-1 in the Cheshire Senior Cup at Lambeth Grove.

Gavin Salmon scored an excellent hat-trick, while Danny Queeley was also on target.

Woodley host Quorn on Saturday in the FA Trophy preliminary round.
