Hat-trick sinks Sports

A BRILLIANT hat-trick from George Donnelly for Skelmersdale United sent Woodley Sports crashing to a 3-2 defeat at Lambeth Grove on Saturday.

Adam Morning netted both goals for the Steelmen, but Donnelly’s heroics sent the hosts down to 14th place in the UniBond First Division North table.

Woodley hosted Radcliffe Borough last night [Tues] in the UniBond League Challenge Cup, but then travel to Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday for a league game.

Meanwhile, former Woodley manager Ash Berry has been appointed boss at fellow UniBond outfit Salford City.

A FIRST-HALF goal from Carlos Meakin was enough for New Mills to secure victory at Ashton Athletic on Saturday. The three points mean the Millers remain in third place in the Vodkat League Premier Division table, ahead of Saturday’s home game against AFC Fylde. On Monday night New Mills beat Hyde United 4-2 in round one of the Manchester Premier Cup.

CHEADLE Town dropped to fourth in the league after a 2-1 defeat by Padiham. It rained throughout the game but the conditions made for an exciting match.

Cheadle got the opening goal after 29 minutes when a touch of class from Rob Brocklehurst put Aaron Riley clear and he made no mistake.

Ten minutes later, the visitors got on level terms when Cheadle goalkeeper Peter Mellor allowed a shot to slip into the far corner of the net.

Padiham got the winner in the second half as play continued to go from end to end.

On Saturday Cheadle are away at Chadderton.
