Whiteside eyeing a prosperous future

12/11/2008

FORMER club secretary and treasurer, Tony Whiteside, is the new chairman of Woodley Sports.

Whiteside, who takes over from Peter Sullivan who resigned his position last week, returns to the club after an absence of two-and-a-half years, and has vowed to take the Lambeth Grove outfit forward in the coming years.

Whiteside said: "I intend to continue the work done by my predecessors, and in particular the tremendous achievements that Neil Rourke initiated and developed in the junior, youth and community club areas.

"The club needs to have a sound financial future, and with the board I will be striving to achieve this within the next two years.

"Like all areas of industry currently, semi-professional football is no different when it comes to operating on limited resources, and it is vital we maintain the high standards we seek while ensuring value for money to our supporters.

"The sterling work Neil did will continue with our committed youth policy, and hopefully will produce more players that can attain full professional status and ultimately financially benefit for the club.

"I intend to develop links with local communities and industry to show what we are trying to achieve here at Woodley Sports, and hope that we can all share in a prosperous future."
