A miserable Saturday

IT WAS a miserable Saturday for all three of Stockport’s UniBond and Vodkat League sides.

Woodley Sports suffered a crushing 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Tameside neighbours Mossley.

The visitors, now managed by former Steelmen boss Chris Willcock, raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 22 minutes.

In front of a worrying small attendance of just 123, Mossley made it 4-0 with just five minutes to go.

Sports pulled a solitary goal back in stoppage-time when Danny Queeley slotted home a penalty kick.

Woodley dropped to 17th place in the UniBond League division one north table.

Ally Pickering’s side face the return league fixture at promotion-chasing Mossley’s Seel Park this Saturday.

  • NEW Mills suffered their first Vodkat Premier League defeat since early September after an impressive strike from Andy Kinsey was enough to secure the three points for Newcastle Town at Church Lane.

The Millers travel to Colne on Saturday [3pm kick-off].

New Mills reserves won 3-1 at Ashover in the Derbyshire Divisonal Cup thanks to goals from Scott Baron, Dale Crockett and Alex Dunne.

  • CHEADLE Town gave out some early Christmas presents on Saturday as Bootle ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at Park Road.

Defensive howlers led to the Merseysiders racing into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 15 minutes.

Striker Ben Brookes then hobbled off injured, leaving Cheadle with a real mountain to climb.

To Cheadle’s credit, they restricted a very good Bootle side to just one second-half goal, but they could never have recovered from that dreadful opening spell.

On Saturday Cheadle are at home to Holker Old Boys in the Vodkat Divisional Cup [3pm kick-off].
