Belief is key for County

JIM Gannon has called for his players to keep believing in themselves ahead of this weekend’s home League Two clash against basement side Wrexham.

Four draws and a defeat in the last five league games has seen County slip to 14th place in the table, but a win on Saturday would lift everyone at the club immeasurably.

Gannon said: "The word that sums up the last few weeks is ‘frustration’. Most of those five games have been there for us to win, but unfortunately we haven’t come up with that killer goal and that extra bit of mental strength required to push on towards the latters stages.

"A few of the lads who are playing really well are getting a little bit disappointed, and a few lads who aren’t playing as well as they know they can are a bit down-hearted, but we just add things each week and eventually it will all click.

"A good result this weekend will blow everything away, but there is a major positive around in that we’ve still only lost one game. Unfortunately three draws is like two defeats and a win though, we know that wins are so valuable and so much more important that a series of draws."

Asked to predict how his team might fare against struggling Wrexham on Saturday, Gannon added: "I’m confident of getting a victory every week, I fancy us against anybody.

"The only time we looked a truly well-beaten team was at half-time at Mansfield, but even in that game we could have picked up points.

"The lads have to keep believing in themselves.

"Some of them are playing fantastic football so we just need to keep that going.

"A few more players need to come up to those high standards, because when we have seven or eight players clicking, and in the form we know they’re capable of, then we have a good side.

"If we get eight, nine or 10 clicking, then we will be an unstoppable team."
