Let’s kick on

COUNTY striker Anthony Elding is looking for his team to kick on and make further progress towards the League Two promotion places following last Saturday’s welcome victory over Wrexham.

The Hatters were on the back of a run of six games without a win ahead of the weekend, but Elding’s super strike and then a second-half winner from Dominic Blizzard fired County back into the top half of the table and they will now head off to Brentford this Saturday full of confidence.

Elding said: "We needed to get the win against Wrexham, that was a massive three points for us, particularly as we had gone a goal behind.

"Before the game Jim Gannon had told us to just go for the three points as this could be a turning point in our season.

"He told us to go out there and play, and enjoy it.

"We needed to make sure we were in the right frame of mind and do the right things, but we did that and this could well prove to be a turning point for us. We can kick on from here.

"To have only won one of our first six games wasn’t good enough, we know that, but training has been good this week and the atmosphere around the place is great.

"We’re all still believing we can win promotion of course. If we win on Saturday at Brentford then we’ll be right in amongst the chasing pack.

"Stockport County is a massive club and we should be higher up the leagues.

"I still think we’re capable of equalling our nine-game winning run too.

"We’ve got the squad and the players, and the fans are just superb as well.

"It’s a pleasure for me to be at Edgeley Park, and there’s no better place for me to score a goal.

"Jim’s preparations for the Brentford trip will be spot-on though. We’ll stay over on Friday, we’ll eat right, travel right, we’ll be ready for the game."
