High praise for Raynes

24/10/2007

JIM Gannon has saluted centre-back Michael Raynes now that it appears he could well be over his injury and illness nightmare.

Raynes, aged 20, has made his long-awaited comeback during the last two games, and was particularly impressive in Saturday’s home defeat against Chester.

Gannon said: "I can’t praise Michael highly enough.

"I’m delighted that he’s stepped back into the breach for us, he has shown tremendous character in these last couple of games after what had been a miserable 12 months for him.

"It was a big step for him to go into the starting line-up at Darlington, and he seems to have built on that.

"On Saturday he won 24 out of 26 headers against John Murphy and Chris Holroyd, who can be a real handful.

"We’re starting to see glimpses again of what we know Michael is capable of."
