Happy Proudlock bags a ‘special’ treble

12/12/2007

HATTERS’ hit-man Adam Proudlock could scarcely conceal his delight following his cracking hat-trick on Saturday.

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves striker Proudlock struck his sixth, seventh and eighth goals of the season as County demolished Wycombe 6-0 on a truly memorable afternoon at Edgeley Park.

Proudlock said: "It was my fourth senior hat-trick, but they are all special to me. It’s not often one comes around, but Saturday’s was my first for County so it’s absolutely brilliant.

"It was a great victory for the team, but it’s about time. It was coming.

"Me and Liam Dickinson did really well together.

"He won most of the flick-ons and he put me through a few times, so as long as you’re through on goal I wasn’t really thinking about the state of the pitch, which was horrendous.

"We can move on now. All the lads had been talking about when this home win would come, and it did on Saturday.

"It clicked, and hopefully we can kick on now and for the rest of the season."

Proudlock, who was thankfully eligible to play after last Tuesday’s red card against Lincoln City was quite rightly rescinded on Friday, completed his treble with a brilliant 73rd minute effort from all of 45 yards.

Spotting Wycombe ‘keeper Frank Fielding off his line, Proudlock lashed home a first-time effort right in front of the joyous Cheadle Enders.

Proudlock said: "My third goal was special.

"I saw the ‘keeper scrambling, we were already 4-0 up at the time, so I thought I’d have a go. Luckily for me the ball went in."

Proudlock’s three other senior hat-tricks came when on loan at Clyde [against Falkirk in August, 2000], for Wolves at Bradford [in October, 2001] and for Sheffield Wednesday at home to Salisbury in the FA Cup [in November, 2003].
