High hopes for Taylor

COUNTY powerhouse Jason Taylor could be available for Saturday’s home League Two clash against Grimsby Town.

The Hatters will bid to extend their mini-winning streak to three games against Alan Buckley’s Mariners this weekend, but it was feared that Taylor may miss out after he limped out of last weekend’s excellent 2-0 win at Macclesfield in the second half with an ankle injury.

However, County’s assistant boss Peter Ward reports that Taylor’s injury wasn’t too serious and staff are hopeful that he will be okay by this weekend.

Matty McNeil will be available again on Saturday having shrugged off his knee injury, but Dominic Blizzard and Anthony Pilkington remain doubtful.

Skipper Ashley Williams is running again, but his return from a serious knee injury will probably come in the New Year now.

Ward believes that the game against Grimsby will provide another tough test for his players.

He said: “We know a lot about Grimsby, they’re on the back of two good wins too and they are a good footballing side.

“They’ll probably keep it tight by employing a 4-5-1 formation, but it’ll be up to us to break them down.

“Their confidence is high, but so is ours and we’ve got two strikers in Liam Dickinson and Adam Proudlock who are working really well together at present.

“They were on fire in the second half at Macclesfield.

“A couple more good results for us over Christmas will move us closer to the chasing pack though.

“That’s what we’re after, but we’ll just see what happens now.”
