County’s Community Cup comp launched

COUNTY’S community foundation project officially launched the local stages of the Football League Community Under-13s Girls’ Cup competition on Friday at the Power League complex in Heaton Mersey.
Six-a-side
Twenty secondary schools participated in the six-a-side event on the day, with the teams being split into three groups.
The semi-finals saw Wilmslow High A beat St Phillip Howard High School 1-0 and Kingsway High beat Two Trees High 4-3 on penalties.
The final of the Stockport County phase (Wilmslow High v Kingsway High) will now take place at Edgeley Park, on Tuesday, January 29, during half-time at County’s game against Chesterfield.
The winners on the night will then go onto the area finals on Wednesday, February 6.
County have been selected by the Football League to host the area final, where the winning team will be joined by winners from Crewe Alexandra, Macclesfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Port Vale, Stoke City, Tranmere Rovers and Wrexham.
After the area finals come the regional finals, then to the grand event, the national final, which will be played at Wembley Stadium prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at the end on March.
