Elding is in demand

COUNTY’S in-form leading scorer Anthony Elding continues to attract interest from rival Football League clubs, but Hatters’ managing director Mark Maguire has stated that the former Boston United hit-man remains happy at Edgeley Park.

Hartlepool United are believed to be still interested in Elding, as are Gillingham.

Crewe Alexandra have also been linked, although Maguire had, as we went to press last night [Tues], heard nothing from Gresty Road.

Maguire told us: "We’ve had interest and offers from Hartlepool for Anthony, but we’ve turned them down.

"We have had interest and an offer from Gillingham too, but that was also turned down.

"We have had no communications from Crewe though.

"A player like Anthony with a record of almost one goal in every two appearances is bound to attract interest, but he remains our player.

"Anthony is happy at Stockport, and while he is bound to be flattered by interest from League One clubs, any transfer business or deal has got to be a fair one for Stockport County.

"We’ll keep Anthony fully informed if there are any further developments."

Elding scored his 15th goal of the season in the second half of last night’s game against Chesterfield.

The January transfer window closes tomorrow [Thurs].

TWO of County’s teenage strikers have joined local semi-pro clubs on initial one-month loan deals. Danny Ellis has joined Blue Square Premier side Droylsden, while Chris Coward has linked up with Woodley.
