The best day of young Tommy's life - so far!
28/ 5/2008
AS ALL County fans are by now fully aware, a bright future definitely beckons for Tommy Rowe, but for now he has revealed that Monday was by far the best day of his life so far.
The supremely talented and much-fancied Rowe, who is still only 19, once again played a major role down the left for County at Wembley, and he is set for a double celebration this week.
He signed a new, extended contract on the eve of the League Two play-off final victory over Rochdale - aimed at keeping him at Edgeley Park until 2010 - and that has to be great news for both Rowe and his growing legion of fans.
Rowe told me after Monday’s breath-taking promotion clincher: "That was the best day of my life, definitely.
"We deserved to win though, absolutely nobody can deny us promotion after that performance.
"Rochdale played well, but I think we passed and kept the ball really well from back to front.
"Even when Rochdale took the lead quite early on in the game, we knew that all we had to do was keep playing, not change anything, and a goal would eventually come.
"We got that first goal shortly before the break, and that probably came just at the right time for us.
"Their second goal was a disappointing one to concede due to some poor marking on our part, but those things happen and we still managed to hold on for the win quite comfortably.
"I can’t wait for League One now, in fact I can’t wait for pre-season to kick in again.
"I’ve just signed a new deal of course, and that’s because County are going places. I’m confident of that.
"We can get up towards the top of the table once again next season.
"We are definitely capable of challenging for the Championship and that’s really exciting for myself and all the rest of the lads."
