Pistol Pete is firing

21/ 7/2008

STOCKPORT boss Jim Gannon has no doubt County will get their money's worth from new striker Peter Thompson.

The Northern Ireland international nicknamed Pistol Pete, who scored 44 times for Linfield last season, joined for a six-figure fee last week.

"I think we'll get value for money with Peter but he will take a while to adjust," said Gannon.

"Once he gets going I think we'll see the sort of form that brought him to our attention.

"Peter has got a fantastic appearance record and a fantastic goal record. He's been full-time for the last couple of seasons and I think he's ready and hungry and determined to be successful here."

County began their pre- season fixtures with a 3-2 win at Cammell Laird on Saturday.

The Hatters were two-up within 15 minutes with goals from Anthony Pilkington and Michael Raynes. Luke Holden pulled one back for the Unibond Premier side before trialist Lee Novaks, a 19-year-old striker from Newcastle Blue Star, restored County's two-goal advantage. Mark Reid pulled another back for the home side after the break.

"We need to play sharper and more up-tempo when games get scruffy," said Gannon.

ADAM Le Fondre caught the eye with four goals as Rochdale enjoyed a 6-0 win over Rossendale at Dark Lane on Saturday.

New signing Jon Shaw and Will Buckley completed the rout. Dale entertain County tomorrow (7.30pm).
