Raynes claims County's Liverpool leveller

COUNTY came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw when they faced a Liverpool XI at Edgeley Park last Saturday.

A crowd of 3,434 saw home debuts for Owain fon Williams, Peter Thompson and Carl Baker with County almost taking a first-half lead when Leon McSweeney struck the post.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring midway through the half when Jordi Brouwer headed the ball down for Gerardo Bruna to fire past fon Williams.

County could have equalised on several occasions before the break as Liverpool keeper Dean Bouzanis denied Thompson and Baker.

The former Morecambe man, along with Anthony Pilkington and Paul Turnbull, saw another effort go off target as Liverpool led at the break.

Having seen fon Williams thwart Bruna early in the second half, County came within inches of an equaliser when Thompson hit the post.

Liverpool’s reprieve was only temporary though as the Hatters levelled just after the hour.

Michael Rose’s corner caused chaos among the visiting defence and left Michael Raynes claiming the equaliser despite Mikel San Jose appearing to get the final touch.

The defender then denied Thompson with a last-gasp tackle before Turnbull volleyed over the bar from 25 yards with time running out.
