STOCKPORT County picked up their second League One point after holding out against one of the title favourites.

Leicester’s City first visit to Edgeley Park since 1924 got off to a cagey start with chances at a premium in a tight first half.

But in the second minute of first-half injury time Peter Thompson, making his home league debut, reacted quickest to a flick on from Michael Raynes and struck the inside of the post with a shot on the turn.

Boss Jim Gannon gave Thompson some support up front with a switch of tactics at half time, pushing Raynes up front from central defence.

But most of the second half action was in County territory.

Keeper Owain Fon Williams pulled off a great reaction save to deny Matty Fryatt from point blank range in the 57th minute.

And Williams produced another vital stop to keep out Andy King’s strike at the end of a flowing Leicester move.

Former City striker Paul Dickov, on as a second half substitute was inches off target with a glancing header and Lloyd Dyer dragged his shot wide with only the keeper to beat as the visitors piled on the pressure at the end.

STOCKPORT will play Port Vale at home in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern section.
