Hartlepool will be tough

21/ 8/2008

COUNTY boss Jim Gannon has revealed that his team could face something of a backlash when they travel to Hartlepool United for their third League One fixture on Saturday.

Pools had a great start to the new season with two home wins - one in the league and one in the Carling Cup - but they were brought back down to earth somewhat last weekend when they went down 1-0 at Tranmere Rovers.

County, meanwhile, have earned two ‘respectable’ draws in the league against Huddersfield and Leicester.

Gannon told the Times: "Hartlepool got off to an excellent start with two wins at their place.

"Tranmere obviously did their homework as they beat them last Saturday, but Hartlepool will probably be smarting from that now.

"It’ll be another tough game, but if we keep it tight, that should give us a chance of winning the game."

County could be without new striker Peter Thompson for the trip to Victoria Park as he has picked up a thigh injury, but Matty McNeil is available again after suspension so he may well deputise.

County fans are advised they will be able to pay at the gate at Hartlepool on Saturday.

However, to guarantee a seat, fans are urged to purchase their tickets in advance from Edgeley Park.

Prices are £20 (adults) and £10 (under-16s, over-65s and students with valid NUS card).

Meanwhile Gannon, who along with his assistant Peter Ward remains in negotiations with County chiefs regarding a new contract, has stated that he might only be able add one, or maybe two, new players to his young squad before the September 1 transfer deadline.

He added: "There’s not a great deal of money available."
