No problem

COUNTY fans everywhere will be delighted to hear that manager Jim Gannon isn’t anticipating any problems once new contract discussions get underway, hopefully later this week.

Gannon and his assistant Peter Ward are currently signed up on one-year rolling contracts, but negotiations are set to take place between them and the board on Friday regarding new deals.

Discussions were originally scheduled for yesterday [Tues], but new County chairman Martin Reid has been called away on business, hence the delay until Friday.

Gannon said: "There’s no major issue as far as I’m concerned.

"I’m still on a one-year rolling contract that wasn’t torn up after promotion, it was just reviewed.

"There’s a number of little things that need to be talked over now.

"A few details need tidying up, and then a few incentives need to be put in place regarding the ambition of the club, which is to get into the Championship.

"It all should be pretty straight-forward.

"Like I’ve said before, I’m very committed to what we’re trying to achieve here. For me, the new contract is not a priority.

"It’s more important that we continue to get the team up and running, the contract will look after itself.

"We’re currently in the process of reviewing all the staff’s contracts too. I’m concerned about making sure all my staff are comfortable and looked after before I attach any urgency to my contract.

"If I was anticipating any problems, I’d simply remain on my old contract. It’s no big deal.

"If we can’t come to an agreement over a few little things, I’d be very surprised."

County legends Gannon and Ward have really changed the Edgeley Park club’s fortunes around since they arrived back following Chris Turner’s departure on Boxing Day, 2005.

At that point the Hatters were adrift at the bottom of League Two and staring at the very real prospect of non-league football, but since then the resurgence at the club has been absolute, concluding with the dream Wembley promotion victory in May.

What on earth are you talking about, County4life? Either name names or shut up. Which trustboard members are in it for themselves? As far as I can see, they are a bunch of volunteers who put effort in for no reward at all, who you can vote out if you want to, and who don't just sit around compaining about things like you do.

It would be a dying shame to let Wardy and Gannon go to another club over a few small things, however, why would I be surprised when there are a few certain members of the Trust board that are in it just for themselves, and if it meant penny-pinching a bit more, then why not?
