Cheltenham 2 Stockport 2

27/ 9/2008

MICHAEL Raynes's last-minute header kept County's unbeaten away record alive at Cheltenham.

Jim Gannon's side twice came from behind with Peter Thompson's first goal since his summer move from Linfield  equalising Stuart Fleetwood's opener before Josh Payne followed up after Owain fon Williams had saved Scott Murray's penalty.

Stockport were dealt a blow before the game when Tommy Rowe was ruled out through illness.

County were on top for long stretches of the first-half with Anthony Pilkington having the best chance in the 25th minute, but he prodded his shot wide after a flowing move down the right.

Stuart Fleetwood put the home side in front in the 32nd minute the when he controlled a long ball out of the Cheltenham defence and slotted the ball past  fon Williams.

Peter Thompson forced a save out of home keeper Scott Brown with a header from Pilkington's cross at the start of the second-half.

The same combination came good in the with Pilkington dummying his marker and then delivering a cross for Thompson to meet with a glancing header at the near post.

Skipper Gareth Owen was caught out by the bounce of the ball in the 65th minute forcing fon Williams to take the legs of Fleetwood.

The keeper parried Scott Murray's penalty, but the Cheltenham striker's follow-up hit the crossbar and was put in by Josh Payne.

Boss Jim Gannon immediately substituted Owen for his mistake.

In the 90th minute Raynes headed home after Jim McNulty's cross had come off the head of Drissa Diallo.  And County almost grabbed all three points when Pilkington's strike hit the crossbar in injury time.

Any draw away from home is welcome, but this was a game county could and should have won. Mistakes through the middle of defence are unexpected this season with Owen looking rock solid, so to see 2 in one game was a shock, fortunatly the other rearity, a Thompson goal helped the cause and the equiliser from Raynes was almost followed with a late winner. Still unbeaten away from home, so not all bad.
