Trust chiefs reveal positive news

5/11/2008

ALTHOUGH the turnout wasn’t quite as high as some would have hoped, the County Supporters’ Trust annual general meeting on Monday night saw plenty of positive news emerge for Hatters fans.

Many topics were raised, but Trust members and fans were assured by County managing director Mark Maguire that some significant developments regarding taking the club forward will be announced before the New Year.

An Edgeley Park buyback plan is known to be extremely high on the agenda of County chiefs.

It was revealed that County’s ‘Ground for a Pound’ website is set to be relaunched soon, and the sprucing up work at the Manor Farm training ground is currently ahead of schedule, but details of club finances were also brought out into the open.

County lost £225,000 during the 2006/07 season, but Maguire is confident that the club will have broken even in 2007/08, partly due to the transfers out of County of Ashley Williams [to Swansea City] and Liam Dickinson [to Derby County].

The question of proceeds from last season’s successful play-off campaign was raised, but that cash was largely swallowed up by the rent of Wembley stadium, the Football League’s slice and staff and player bonuses.

All in all County owe roughly £300,000, but payment plans are in place for all creditors, and they are all being paid on time. Full financial figures will be published shortly.

In terms of Trust board members, club director Stuart Cree and Trust chairman David Hoyle were re-elected, while Steve Bedder and Paul Kershaw were elected from their co-opted positions to become full members. Russ Harrison was newly-elected to the board, while it was proposed and agreed that Adam Gazeley would fill Mark Evans’ place for 12 months and will stand again at the next election.
