It’s a family affair at Heaton Moor

HEATON Moor’s men enjoyed a seasonal Scotch Trot and it turned out to be a family affair. S and M Woosey had the pick of the amber nectar with 39 points from D Deakin and C Patel (38) and MJ and MP Hodgkinson (37).

The terrific trio of Alan Salt, Gerry McCann and G Brammall were out on their own in a team competition at Houldsworth.

Their massive 52 points saw them well clear of D Michael, I Burns and B McConnell (44).

It was closer in a singles Stableford at Houldsworth as D Byrne eased into top spot with 27 points from Harry Williams and Stuart Clarkson (both 26).

Blackley Golf Club’s dynamic duo of Julian Robinson (handicap one) and Alan Lane (3) pulled off their second Manchester Alliance am-am win in three weeks as they mastered some tricky greens at De Vere Mottram Hall.

They lie joint top of the Alliance amateur order of merit and extended their lead as they posted a winning 37 points.

Next in were Shrigley Hall’s Brian Hopkins and Bob Francis on 36, and completing the prize list were Colin Kenworthy of Dukinfield with his partner Ian Trow, the captain of Stamford Golf Club, with 34 points.

Davenport’s big-hitting professional Tony Stevens partnered his club amateur colleague Mike Jones to a narrow win in the pro-am section with 39 points as three pairs were just one point behind the leaders.

Getting the nod in the card play-off were Leyland’s Colin Burgess and Peter Halloran, from David Green (Dukinfield) and Joel King (Denton).

"Next year will be a notable landmark for International Pairs, and it seems fitting that the world and UK finals will both be staged in Scotland," said Ross Honey, founder and managing director of International Pairs.

The 2008 International Pairs UK finals, which will determine the International Pairs national men’s, ladies and mixed champions, will be played over Carnoustie’s Championship and Burnside courses from October 14-16.

Finalists will be based at the four-star Carnoustie Hotel overlooking the world-famous Angus links and scene of the 2007 Open Championship, while the respective national winners will go on represent their countries at the 2009 International Pairs world final.
