STOCKPORT, Reddish Vale and Disley Golf Club’s ladies Bell Cup teams are the only locals left in this season’s MDLGA team knockout competition.
From an original entry of well over 80 clubs, Stockport are now through to the last 16 after a thrilling 4-3 win at Harwood and now face the winners of the tie between Leigh and Stand.
Disley, the 2006 champions, won their round one match with a convincing 6-1 margin over Buxton and High Peak and now entertain a strong Sale side.
Reddish Vale have a good record in this competition and they showed their power with a 4-3 derby win at Hazel Grove.
The hopes of Romiley were ended by Macclesfield who pulled off a fine 4-3 away win.
Also going out were Bramall Park, 4-3 to Glossop, Bramhall, 4-3 at Shaw Hill, and Heaton Moor, who put up a great fight before going down 5-2 when hosting a strong Oldham team.
Cheadle professional Anthony Millar pulled off a big win in the latest of the Players Tour competitions as he partnered home pro Grant Hamerton to a winning 61 in a pairs event at Pike Fold.

The Mellor and Townscliffe Seniors Centenary Plate was won by Jerry Baggs with a swinging 66 from Chris Brown and Dave Wilson (68) and Dave Jones and Alan Southworth (both 71).
The Appleton Rosebowl at Mellor was taken by Callum Jackson after a card play-off on 41 from Dexter Moult, with Frank Blanchard and Pat Chamberlain a point off the pace.
In-form Graham Fletcher was the main man again at Gatley as he warmed up for his forthcoming charity marathon by winning a club Stableford with 44 points, four clear of Mark Coffey.
Jean Oates was in blistering form at Marple, winning a singles Stableford with 41 points, well clear of B Bethell (38) and E Wright and B Sharman (both 33).
A seniors Stableford at Marple was won by Douglas Beswick with his 43 seeing home with plenty to spare from George Adams (34) and Colin Braddock (33).
Round one of Captain’s Weekend at Bramhall had Nicholas Parker winning division one after a cpo on 69 from Bob Eastwood.
The other divisional winners were Richard Evans (65), Scott Bickerton (64) and Philip Webster (64).
Romiley’s men played an All Winners and medal and Mark Marsland led in with 65 from Gary Christie (66) and Harry Parker, David Williamson and G Roberts (all 69).
Houldsworth ladies were in medal mode and Norma Kelly won a cpo on 77 from Elizabeth Fallows, with Pam Wiseley next in with 80.
GLOSSOP Golf Club was delighted to help when the High Peak Mayor Cllr Robin Baldry asked them to organise a Charity Golf Day for him in aid of Glossop Charities.
The event will take place on Sunday, August 17, with a shotgun start at 1pm. Cost of entrance will be £40 per team. The competition will be a four-ball am-am Stableford competition played to full handicap.
