HAZEL Grove’s Cheshire star Iain Davie used local knowledge to good effect as he won the Bosden Trophy over his own course for the second year running.

Davie has won both the Cheshire strokeplay and matchplay championships in recent years, and he showed his quality by reeling off three birdies in the last four holes for a second round of 68.

This was tagged onto his first round of 71 to give him victory over Andrew Terry of Manchester GC by three strokes.

Other locals in the top 10 were Andrew Hill (Hazel Grove, 145), Gareth Bradley (Bramhall, 149) and Simon Conway (Hazel Grove, 150).

Davie’s win lifts him up the Mitsushiba Northern order of Merit table and into fifth place in the Cheshire Order of Merit.

Meanwhile, the National County Card continues to give club golfers great opportunities to play to courses around the world at discounted prices - and also bring financial benefits to their own clubs.

The National County Card [pictured right] now has more than 1,000 courses signed up worldwide and as well as top venues in the UK such as Mere, Nefyn and District and the Oxfordshire, it is now involved with courses in Spain, Mallorca, Tenerife, Portugal, Turkey, America and Canada.

More great news for National Card holders is the new links with the Oceanico Group, which has some terrific courses in the Algarve and also the Blue Green Group, which covers courses around Paris and also across the whole of France.

The NCC gives golf clubs the opportunity to generate more income - at no cost.

The NCC was launched by Rob Sutton of Withington Golf Club, who said: "The scheme is available to all private 18-hole golf clubs and allows their members to play at courses across the UK and abroad at favourable rates.

"Our objective is to address the issue of club-discounted green fees, to drive fuller memberships and address some of the imbalances within the golf industry."
