Stockport hit 50 at Vale

14/11/2007

STOCKPORT proved they are the team to beat at the top of North Two West with a massive 45-point win at struggling Vale of Lune.

After 10 minutes Vale opened the scoring.

The home side created an opening by steadily battering into the Stockport defence and Vale’s flyhalf Owen Hughes cut a clean line to score left of the posts.

He missed the subsequent conversion.

Vale were unable to increase their five point tally during the remaining 70 minutes of the match.

Stockport opened their account on their first visit to the home side’s 22.

A well-timed pass from Greg Newton released No.8 Peter Bredenkamp on a clear run to the tryline.

Richard Hopkinson converted to give Stockport a 7-5 lead.

With Vale struggling to get out of their own half, dominant Stockport scored their second try.

A pass by Si Baker, from the ruck, missed five players outside of him before James Dalton managed to poke the ball forward with his foot and touch it down.

After the break Stockport enjoyed a points feast that boosted their half-time lead of seven points to a huge 45 point advantage.

Ian Kennedy and Steve Pearson both scored braces in the second-half.

Stockport’s other try was provided by Simon Baker. Richard Hopkinson successfully converted four of the visitors’ seven tries.

This Saturday Stockport are at Headlands Road for an Intermediate Cup second round match against Lymm, kick off 2.30pm.
