Xmas top spot for Stockport

19/12/2007

RU: STOCKPORT are in the number one spot in North 2 West for Christmas, thanks to a 22-5 win against Vale of Lune at Headlands Road.

The home side opened the scoring with a try from James Drew, who fended off a tackle to cross in the corner.

League strugglers Vale of Lune equalised before the interval but, from the restart, the scoring all went Stockport’s way as Mike Raven, John Wilson and Craig Cooper all bagged tries in the second half.

The win, and rivals Chester’s 17-17 draw against Leigh, put Stockport into the top spot in the league.

Celebrations after the match included a players’ fancy dress event, try-scorer Drew impressing as ‘Bananaman’.
