Hungry for action

RORY Lamont has had a painful start to his Sharks career.

In only his second game for Sharks, against Cardiff, summer signing Lamont suffered a rib injury that meant instead of tearing up the turf the Scotland international has been confined to the gym.

His recovery is now complete and Lamont is hoping to return to action this weekend in Italy against Petrarca.

"It’s obviously been disappointing the past couple of weeks," explained Lamont.

"I’ve had a rib injury so I haven’t played.

"I should be available for this weekend so hopefully I’ll get some game time then and get back into things."

He added: "They (my ribs) are still a little bit tender, the last couple of weeks I could hardly move.

"But with ribs there’s not much you can do about it they just need time to heal."

Lamont made a try-scoring debut for Sharks against Saracens and, if his World Cup form is anything to go by, it will be the first of many.

Four tries in seven internationals and some stunning breaks earned him the award for Scotland’s best international player last month.

Yet, despite his impressive skill set, Lamont is not complacent about the fight for places that all Sharks players face this season.

"There’s a lot of competition [for places] so I’d never assume anything," he explained.

"It is a really talented squad and that was a big influence in why I joined Sale.

"I think this is a squad with huge potential, it’s an ambitious club and they want to win competitions.

"Once everyone’s fully fit and here it is an exciting team and I’m looking forward to playing with some new players."

The 25-year-old winger joined Sharks from Glasgow Warriors at the same time as his club-mate and fellow Scotland international Scott Lawson.

The pair spent their first few weeks in England living together and have helped each other adjust to life at their new club.

Lamont explained: "Scott has come from Glasgow as well. We went through the same experience going to the World Cup and joining Sale straight in from the World Cup.

"It’s good to be able to speak to someone who’s going through exactly the same as you. It’s handy having him here."

Advice on life at Sharks could also be gleamed from Scotland skipper Jason White, who has played at the Edgeley Park club for four years.

Lamont added: "Jase is a big presence, you can always talk to him.

"He’s an inspirational figure. He pretty much does his talking on the pitch, he’s well respected and well liked by all the players. It’s massively good having him here."
