Sale can’t Brive easy in Cup yet

23/ 1/2008

SHARKS will face former Heineken Cup champions Brive in the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup.

Although the 14-14 draw at Montpellier cost Sharks a guaranteed home semi-final, Philippe Saint-Andre’s side still qualified to host the knock-out clash against Brive at Edgeley Park.

The French side triumphed in Europe’s biggest rugby tournament, the Heineken Cup, in 1997, but this year they are out of the top four seedings in the European Challenge Cup, meaning they must take on the Sharks in Stockport.

The match will be played on the weekend of April 4-6.

Details about the game, including the date, kick-off time and ticket information, will be announced on the club’s website www.salesharks.com.

  • HARLEQUINS are the visitors to Edgeley Park this Friday.

After starting the season well, beating London Irish, Leeds Carnegie, Bristol and London Wasps, Dean Richards’ team began to struggle and, since October 28, they have recorded just one win in 10 games, and that was a 10-7 close shave at Sixways against Worcester.

Quins, noted for their attractive style of play, come to Sharks on the back of their Heineken Cup exit.

Harlequins had played tough games in the European tournament against Cardiff, which they lost 23-12, and followed that with a 31-10 home defeat to Stade Francais.

Tickets to see Sharks take on Harlequins cost from £15 adults and £7 for juniors.

  • SALE Sharks will be holding a three-day rugby camp, from February 12-14, at Stockport Grammar School.

The camp will include two days of coaching by Sharks coaches at the school but, for one day, the camp will move to the first team’s training base at Carrington.

Everyone attending the camp will have the opportunity to watch Sharks players training and show off their skills in front of their heroes. The rugby enthusiasts will also meet some of their favourite players and get a backstage tour of the training ground.

All attendees will receive a Sale Sharks rugby camp t-shirt plus a free ticket to see Sale Sharks versus Worcester Warriors on February 29.

The camp is for players aged between eight and 15 and costs £85 (or £80 if booked online). To book go to www.rugbycamps.com or for more details call 0161 286 8888 ext 204 or email john.acheson@salesharks.co.uk
