White's delight at leaving on a high
30/ 1/2008
SHARKS’ captain Jason White was content as he left to skipper Scotland, after his team grabbed fourth place in the Guinness Premiership table.
The Edgeley Park side only briefly held a position in the league’s top four, before Saracens reclaimed the spot with a 26-20 victory against Bath.
Despite Sharks slipping back to just outside the championship play-off places, White believes Sale can continue to push on into the top four, even with up to seven players away during the Six Nations.
He said: "We’re halfway through the league season, we are in the top four and we’ve got Wasps away which I think is a game we can target.
"They are going to have guys away on international duty and we’re still going to have a strong side. Then we’ve got Leeds and Worcester at home so we’ve got the makings, and the run of games, to pick up more points and hopefully cement our place in the top four."
Recent disappointing displays have failed to knock White’s confidence in his team-mates.
"We’ve maybe not been playing at 100 per cent," admitted White. "But we are in the top four so we’re all happy with that and we’re going to just keep working hard to improve."
White’s Scotland side will meet France in their first tie of the Six Nations tournament this weekend and, at present, he is keeping his international aims under wraps.
"To beat France is as far as I’m looking at the moment," said the Sale flanker.
"If we can get off to a flyer that will be brilliant."
