Philippe Saint-Andre shows his delight after the win.
Win puts smile on players' faces
27/ 2/2008
NOT only did victory against Leicester bring a smile to Sharks players’ faces on Saturday, it could also prove an important turning point in the team’s season.
After an easy win against basement club Leeds ended without a four-try bonus point for Sharks, it seemed the side had yet to hit the form their players should be capable of.
"Let’s hope this is something that kick-starts us on," said head coach Kingsley Jones.
"It’s great to have victories like this, it’s what builds team spirit and it bonds us together.
"We’ve been inches away in the last few weeks, not miles away. We haven’t clicked and the expectation of coaches, supporters, the board and players is higher than what we’ve shown but I thought we controlled the game for big parts and I think the result was fair."
Saturday’s win puts Sharks in the fourth play-off place in the league, with a game in hand over the top two.
Director of rugby at the Edgeley Park club Philippe Saint-Andre added: "It’s good to see the guys smiling after a game like this. Beating Leicester is never easy.
"I know Leicester will still be there at the end of the season but for us its very significant.
"We need to keep going and the biggest mistake would be not to prepare well for next Friday’s game against Worcester and to lose."
