Players lacked usual passion, admits coach

14/ 5/2008

PHILIPPE Saint-Andre was prepared to take some of the blame for Sharks’ failure to secure a spot in the Premiership semi-finals.

Sharks director of rugby admitted that he sensed that the team’s attitude during the week leading up to the tie was not as he expected.

"Maybe I have also failed," he explained. "I had a feeling about this all week and talked to them yesterday [Friday] but still we had no urgency, we were not desperate and we didn’t have the passion that we normally have at home. We didn’t deserve to be in the semi-finals. To finish the season like this is very, very disappointing."

Sharks head coach Kingsley Jones added: "It was really hard to take in the end but once they got the interception try I felt we lost a bit of confidence and started panicking in certain areas.

"We forced things and chased the game and we just kept making errors. It is not every day you have the chance of a semi-final in your hands, and we’ve blown it."
