Doherty signs two-year deal

14/ 5/2008

SHARKS have signed 21-year-old fullback/winger David Doherty on a two-year deal.

The London Wasps youngster, who has represented England at Under-19s and Under-21s level, is the third back to sign for Sharks next season, the others are internationals Dwayne Peel (Wales) and Mathew Tait (England).

Sale Sharks chief executive James Jennings said: "David is a full back or winger with explosive pace and has made a real impact in his first season at Wasps, following his move from Leeds Carnegie last season.

"I am sure that David will make a significant contribution at Sharks and will fit in well with our other talented backs."

Doherty will replace Sharks’ departing fullbacks Ben Foden and Julien Laharrague.

Director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre added: "I am pleased that David is joining Sale Sharks, he is a young player with plenty of potential.

"He made his mark at Leeds and has played in some big games for Wasps this season."

The Edgeley Park outfit are expected to announce another new signing before the weekend.
