Ormsby forced to play the waiting game
13/ 8/2008
THE arrival of Sharks’ new signing Kristian Ormsby has been delayed by paperwork.
The 28-year-old from New Zealand was expected to be with Sharks by now preparing for the new season.
However, his application for a visa is taking longer to come through than expected as a result of a suspected back-log in the system.
Sharks’ chief executive James Jennings explained: "There is a back-log of paperwork at the consulate or embassy that is dealing with Kristian’s application so we just have to wait.
"It is frustrating but it is nothing untoward.
"We hoped he would be in the UK by now but we have to be patient, there’s not a great deal we can do in these situations.
"Hopefully we’ll get some news soon and Kristian can make arrangements to come here.
"I hope he will be here very soon. Then he can meet the squad and begin working with them and come under the direction of Philippe [Saint-Andre] and the rest of the coaches."
It is not just back-row/lock Ormsby who has experienced delays.
Argentinian international Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe also faced a wait for his visa to come through, causing Lobbe to miss Sharks’ pre-season tour to France. The relevant documents were eventually returned and Lobbe resumed training with Sharks this week.
SHARKS’ boss Jennings is confident that the Stockport-based team have what it takes to excel this year.
He explained: "I’m very optimistic and enthusiastic about all aspects of the club from the squad to the commercial side.
"It is an exciting squad. We had a great squad last year and the new arrivals have made a big difference. I think we can do better than last year in terms of how we finish the season and hopefully have our most successful season ever.
"On the commercial side the new 500 Club is an exciting development which has been well received by local businesses."
