White back for Scots
5/11/2008
RORY Lamont has been omitted from Scotland’s team to face New Zealand on Saturday due to a shoulder injury.
Lamont’s Sharks colleague and former Scotland skipper Jason White has forced his way back into the side and earned a starting spot in Saturday’s line-up against the All Blacks.
That selection will be a timely boost for the back-row, who has impressed Scotland coaches in training.
White was dropped to the bench in Scotland’s final two Six Nations matches this year and missed the tour to Argentina because he was undergoing tidy-up operations on his knee and shoulder.
Flanker White is one of four Sharks who will be representing their countries this weekend in the opening match of the autumn internationals.
Prop Andrew Sheridan starts for England against the Pacific Islanders, his first match in over a month due to a shoulder injury.
Sheridan last played for his club on October 1 when Sale lost 28-6 at London Irish.
Full-back Mathew Tait is out of contention for an England place due to a hamstring injury and is not expected to be available until later this month.
Dwayne Peel has been demoted to the bench for Wales’ tie against South Africa, while uncapped prop Eifion Roberts, who was named in the Welsh training squad, failed to make the final cut.
Second/back-row Sebastien Chabal is on the bench for France’s game against Argentina, while prop Lionel Faure has lost his place in the side.
Sharks’ captain Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe is expected to take part in the Pumas’ match against France on Saturday, although the team has yet to be confirmed.
