Edinburgh test for Sharks

SALE Sharks travel to Scotland next month to take on Edinburgh in a pre-season friendly on Friday, August 19.

The trip is in addition to the pre-season tour to France when Philippe Saint-Andre's side will face Castres and Perpignan.

Kingsley Jones said the trip to France would help to build team spirit, but added: "We've got a stronger squad and this is a chance for players to put their hands up.

"A few guys are just coming back and others are out injured or unavailable, so it's a chance for others to take their place and show themselves."

The French trip is an apt pre-cursor to Sharks' eagerly-awaited Heineken Cup campaign next season when they meet pool rivals Munster, Newport Gwent Dragons and Castres Olympique.

Fans will get their first chance to witness Sharks on home turf against Doncaster at Edgeley Park on Friday, August 26 (kick-off 8pm).

Newly promoted to National One, Doncaster have a number of connections to Sharks.

Sale coach Kingsley Jones and back-row forward John Carter joined Sharks from Doncaster, while the Yorkshire club signed former Sharks hooker Johnny Roddam over the summer.
