Sale Sharks 9 Saracens 15

13/ 3/2006

PREMIERSHIP strugglers Saracens prevented Sale Sharks from extending their unbeaten home record to a full 12 months with a 15-9 victory at Edgeley Park on Friday night.

Tries either side of half-time by Ben Johnston and Glen Jackson gave Saracens, bolstered by the arrival of former Australia coach Eddie Jones, their first win in nine games.

Charlie Hodgson's deputy at fly-half, Valentin Courrent, converted three penalties to give the league leaders a narrow 9-7 lead at the interval, but the absence of four internationals and banned number eight, Sebastien Chabal, took its toll on Sale, who failed to score any points during the messy second half.

Even with a one-man advantage, after prop Cobus Visagie was sent to the sin-bin, Sharks could not breach Saracens' determined defence to score a vital winning try.
