SHARKS marked their return to fortress Edgeley Park with a pre-season victory against Edinburgh Gunners.

However, the 30-14 triumph failed to impress Sale's director of rugby, Philippe Saint-Andre, who used the game to give 29 players match practice before their tough clash with Leicester Tigers on Sunday.

Saint-Andre said: "We played much better in our game in Biarritz and several players did not work hard enough [on Friday].

"I wanted to give the whole squad a run and we know we have a lot of work to do in preparation for our game at Leicester Tigers."

Three Sharks - Magnus Lund, Jason White and Steve Hanley - scored tries against Edinburgh, while Sale were also awarded a penalty try.

Prop Andrew Sheridan, returning to action after a neck injury, was one of 12 substitutes introduced by Saint-Andre in the improved second-half.
