Sale Sharks 28 Newcastle Falcons 5

Jenny Dixon
2/10/2006

ORIOL Ripol scored a brace of tries against Newcastle Falcons, on Friday, to help Sale Sharks get off to a winning start in the EDF Energy Cup.

Sharks' third try was scored by Chris Jones, while Daniel Larrechea provided 13 points with his boot, watched from the sidelines by England flyhalf Charlie Hodgson

It looked like Sharks would finish the match without conceding any points but in the dying minutes Newcastle drove over the line, a consolation try for the underperforming Falcons' unit.

Sale prop Lionel Faure had to be stretchered off the field in the first half after suffering a suspected broken leg.
