Anxious wait beckons for unlucky White

INJURED Scotland skipper Jason White is facing an agonising wait to discover how long he will be forced to spend on the sidelines.

Two scans to determine the seriousness of the knee injury that the influential Sharks flanker sustained during Scotland's rout of Romania on Saturday were not conclusive, but there are worrying suggestions that White could be out of action for up to seven months.

"I'm obviously disappointed," said White, who twisted his knee while attempting a tackle.

"There's never a good time to get injured.

"I've had a couple of scans but they weren't conclusive and I'm still waiting to find out exactly what is wrong and how long it will take to recover."

Despite White's positive attitude, Sharks' head coach Kingsley Jones is preparing for the worst.

He explained: "At the moment we've got to take the medical advice and look at the worst picture which is seven months.

"Maybe he won't play for Sale until after the World Cup.

"We look at that because anything else is a bonus.

"If he comes back in April - fantastic, but we don't want to put the player under those sort of strains. We'll see how it goes."

The loss of White would not only be a massive blow to Sharks, but, if the pessimistic prognosis turns out to be accurate, he will miss the Six Nations.

Jones, however, knows there are few better able to cope with this current set-back than White.

He said: "Jason is one of the most positive people you'll meet.

"He is a tough guy mentally as well as physically, and he'll bounce back.

"The first thing he is thinking of is his rehab, he is thinking 'I will get this right and be back as quickly as I can'."
