Sharks’ Remarks

28/ 2/2007

COMMERCIAL manager Nathan Bombrys is in his fifth season at Sale Sharks.

Before joining the Edgeley Park outfit he performed a similar role at basketball team London Towers and worked at events including the Edinburgh Festival.

Here Nathan discusses the growth in Sharks' support and why the injuries that have plagued the team this season will not hamper the club's ambition...

"THE measure of a strong club is not when everything is going great and the team is winning, it is when things aren't going so well.

"We are experiencing one of those periods at the moment, but fans have responded in an outstanding fashion.

"On Friday night it was our biggest crowd for a game against London Irish at home and, although everyone was disappointed by the result, the passion fans showed was excellent.

"One of the highlights of doing this job is seeing the support at matches when we don't expect to get a big crowd.

"The ticket sales indicate that for the Worcester game [March 9] there will be 9,500 -10,000 at Edgeley Park.

"People want to get behind the team and see them win.

"In over a decade of working in professional sport I've never seen anything like the injury situation that Sharks have experienced this season.

"But now we've got to draw a line under the season we would have had, on paper the squad were a top two in the league side, and concentrate on the season that has been dealt to us.

"We can still qualify for the Heineken Cup through the EDF Energy Cup, we are through to the semi-finals.

"Sharks have a bit of history in the competition - losing the final against Leicester in 1996 and losing against Newcastle in 2003. This time we want to win it."
