Sharks targeting the big names

SHARKS head coach Kingsley Jones is confident that star players will be enticed to Edgeley Park this summer.

Many Premiership clubs have already announced their key signings, while Sharks have confirmed just three so far.

But, according to Jones, fans shouldn't be concerned.

"We've got a lot of big names still really interested," revealed Jones.

"We'll still be chasing the right people but we are certainly in the mix for a couple of big signings.

"It's no secret that we need a couple of big names in the backs and we are positive about getting those players."

Sharks have been talking to New Zealand winger/fullback Rico Gear, while Welsh centre Gavin Henson has also been linked with the Stockport-based club.

Before Sale coaches can fully concentrate on recruitment, they must oversee one more game this season, away against NEC Harlequins on Saturday.

Sharks still have a slim chance of playing in the Heineken Cup next season, because the team that finishes seventh in the league could still qualify.

Despite a terrible season, Sharks could end the season in that spot, but only if they manage to record a four-try win against Harlequins, deny them a bonus point, and Newcastle gain no points from their match against Bath.

Jones added: "It's still something for us to chase. I've tried to look positively at things all season and we've got to keep looking up."
