No southern comfort for County

It's tough at the bottom.

Stockport suffered their sixth successive defeat when they fell to Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Two late goals - from Peter Crouch and Steve Lovell - left the Hatters with nothing, following a brave display against Pompey.

County had their chances - Luke Beckett came close, only for defender Lewis Buxton to muscle his way in and force the new striker to shoot wide. Shefki Kuqi also saw a shot well saved.

Such misses proved costly. Crouch edged Pompey ahead with a 72nd minute strike, followed by Lovell's second in the closing stages.

One bright spot for Carlton Palmer was the form of young midfielder Aaron Lescott, who marked footballing legend Robert Prosinecki out of the game.
