The Blackpool Waterloo final saw Noel Burrows from Hazel Grove win the sport's number one tournament.

Burrows beat Geoff Telford 21-8 in the final, but spare a thought for Telford who lost his wife tragically through illness only days before the final took place.

Gary Ellis, the Stockport Parks/D&C Satellites Open winner, was in peak form when he won the Blackpool Talbot Trophy last Thursday.

Ellis beat Peter Davenport 21-19 in the semi-final. He then came from a long way behind in the final to beat Norman Fletcher 21-16 to take the trophy and winners cheque for £1,000.

On Saturday he went along to the Waterloo for the Champion of Champions event and came home again with another trophy and £1,000 cheque when he beat Ian Nicholson 21-14 in the final.

If you add the Springbank, Stockport Parks Open, Wharton Cons and Cleckheaton to the list, Ellis has had a great year.

  • THE Cheshire Parks Association is apparently under threat and I would urge all 34 Stockport park's bowling clubs to send a representative to an extraordinary meeting to discuss the possible implications on Tuesday, October 5 at the Victoria Bowling Club (7.30pm).
