Garside brace helps County to crucial victory

STOCKPORT County Ladies produced their most resolute and controlled team display of the season in beating Lincoln City 3-2 on Sunday.
Two goals from Mel Garside and a Katie Brusell strike took the local outfit up to third place in the Premier league.
Garside opened the scoring on 14 minutes when she held off her marker and struck home a well-placed shot.
The home side drew level on 32 minutes, and nine minutes later Lucy Lutton was forced off the field through injury.
On 69 minutes a corner kick from Suzanne Hunt was met well by Charlotte Higginson, her header towards goal was received by Brusell who smashed in from close range and the sides were again level after the Red Imps had gone into the lead just after half-time.
On 82 minutes, a good move down the left flank saw the ball reach Garside, and though there were players in the box, Stockport's top scorer only had one intent.
A fierce strike would have beaten most goalkeepers - as did this one, and it was 3-2 to Stockport.
County's reserves lost 4-2 at home to Leeds United where Cath Dutton and Rhianne Mitchell were on target.
- THE under-16s Blues marched through to their first cup final after beating Failsworth Dynamos 4-1 in an exciting semi-final.
Early in the second half County went behind to an own goal, but this seemed to lift the Hatters girls' game.
Natalie Palmer equalised, then scored a second to hand her side the lead.
Sarah Stones added a third then a hotly-disputed goal from Katherine Jones made it 4-1.
The final against Chaddy End will take place this Saturday, December 18.
The under-14s had an off day when they were beaten 5-0 by Tameside Girls.
Izzie Hayes was player-of-the-match in the under-12s 3-2 defeat by Manchester City.
She scored one of County's goals with Laura Wild bagging the other.
The under-11s also lost 4-1 against Hopwood Girls, Abbie Cooke scoring for County.
