Liam’s big chance

WOODLEY Sports' towering centre-forward Liam Dickinson has been offered a trial with Stockport County, and last week was training with the Hatters' reserve team.

Dickinson, aged 20, has impressed County scouts recently. In an injury-interrupted campaign, he has still managed to score six goals, including a late penalty in the Steelmen's superb 2-0 win at table-topping Bridlington Town on Saturday.

Woodley boss Ally Pickering said: "Liam's a big lad and puts himself about, and has done particularly well since returning from his recent knee injury.

"Stockport watched him again on Saturday and I think they'll have been suitably impressed. Liam, who is contracted to us, is delighted to have this chance to show just what he can do with a League club.

"He's also a good kid, he's level-headed, and he's a local lad."

Pickering was unsurprisingly delighted with his team's performance at Bridlington, where Luke Horrocks was also on the mark for the visitors. "We absolutely battered them to be honest," he added. "We should have been five up by half-time.

"If we can keep up our recent good form then we might be able to push for the play-offs after Christmas. To reach the play-offs would be an excellent achievement."

Woodley travel to Chorley on Saturday in the league, a team who are just one place above them in the UniBond first division table.
