CHAMPIONS Oulton Park got off to a flying start in the ECB Cheshire County Premier League on Saturday, winning by six wickets at Alderley Edge with the aid of a fine all-round performance from their skipper, former Derbyshire player Nathan Dumelow.

The game between Bramhall and Neston was called off before the scheduled start due to a waterlogged pitch.

Relegated Chester Boughton Hall made a winning start to life in Division One with an impressive performance at Macclesfield, while promotion favourites Urmston began with a five-wicket win at Cheadle who totalled 170 for 8 (Paul Sperring 51, Peter Manser 34, Kurt Edginton 6-57). Aussies Ben O'Brien (48) and Adam Landry (35), plus 33 from Chris Watson saw Urmston home with five balls to spare.

Poynton closed 15 to 7 points to the good in a drawn game at Heaton Mersey.

With 46 from Charlie Lamb, 42 from Steven Dunn and Hasan Rashin taking 3-55, Poynton declared at 176 for 9. 'Mersey just held out at 101 for 9 (Matt Norbury 35, David Watkins 4-21), while Lamb celebrated his return from Bootle as player-coach with 3-32.

Cheadle Hulme's game against Didsbury was washed out.

Upton personality Gary Dixon had an eventful weekend, helping his side to a 53-run Second Division victory at Malpas before dashing off to run in the London Marathon the next day.

Bredbury St Mark's outplayed Grappenhall, but had to be content with a 13 to 9 points draw after declaring at 166 for 9 (Chris Wood 77, Darren Carr 41).

Former Lancashire all-rounder Paul Ridgeway took 5-47, then top-scored with 37 in Grapenhall's 143 for 9 (Graham Barlow 3-29).

MARPLE went down by 36 runs against Runcorn in their opening game in the First Division of the Meller Braggins League.
