Wild celebrations for cup winners Celtic

BRINNINGTON Celtic won the President's Cup after securing a 2-0 win over Thatched Tavern in the final.

On target for Celtic were John Connolly and Peter Wild.

In the Steve Mealey Plate, Mermaid and Navigation played a close game which saw Mark Rees scoring first for Mermaid.

Paul Bleese replied for Navigation, but with a minute to go and extra-time looming, up popped Nick Thirkell to win the game for Navigation.

Elsewhere on Sunday, the Cheshire Cat secured a convincing 6-1 win against Roaring Winds.

Chris Bell and Michael Crosby grabbed two goals apiece, while Simon Phillips and Darrell Morris made up the tally for the victors.

Paul Harratt scored Winds' consolation effort.

The Bulls Head beat the Houldsworth Arms 4-2. Mike Myers scored twice, while Liam Turner and Nick Farmer completed the Bulls' scoring.

James Pearson scored both goals for the Arms.

Brinnington Celtic played two evening games last week.

Firstly they came from two goals down to beat Navigation 3-2, then two days later they put 11 goals past a hapless Bulls Head side.

Micky Beirne and Peter Wild both scored four goals, while there was one each for Scott Flanagan, John Leah and Ray Sidderley.

Elsewhere Bridgehall just managed to overcome Woodman Wanderers 4-3.

   just a comment on the navigaton and mermaid game in the steve mealey plate cup final, i dont think the report was fare, navigaton scored first and was a very nail biting game. iwent to the game on the sunday against brinninton celtic and thacth and tell u the suport wasnt there where as the navigaton game there was at least two hundred .iam a navi suporter and think we deserve a better wright up since we been going two years and to reach a final in that time is just a1.
