Busy Steelmen ahead of new campaign

WOODLEY Sports now have six home pre-season friendly fixtures scheduled, as the build-up to the 2006/07 UniBond League campaign continues.

The main attraction will be the high profile visit of Stockport County on Tuesday, July 18 (7.30pm ko).

County have indicated that they will send a strong squad to Lambeth Grove, despite it being just days after returning from the San An Cup tournament in Ibiza.

The game forms part of Liam Dickinson's transfer package, so County fans are being urged to get along and lend support to both of Stockport's senior football clubs.

Prices for all the friendlies are £4 and £2 for juniors and senior citizens, though purchasers of season tickets will have admittance to the pre-season games included in their cost of £120 (£60 concessions).

The full list of home friendlies is: Sat, July 1 v Altrincham (1pm); Sat, July 8 v Stalybridge Celtic (3pm); Tues, July 11 v Curzon Ashton (7.45pm); Tues, July 18 v Stockport County (7.30pm); Sat, July 29 v Hyde United (3pm); Sat, August 5 v Ashton United (3pm).

At present the only away game planned is at Ramsbottom United on Tuesday, August 8 (7.45pm).

At the recent end-of-season awards night, two players picked up the main awards.

Young goalkeeper Liam Higginbotham, who had another excellent season, shared the players' player award with club captain Chris Young.

Young also picked up the manager's player-of-the-year award from boss Ally Pickering.

• WOODLEY'S board of directors have been left with a problem to solve with regards to a shirt sponsor for all three of their teams.

After ordering all of the new kit and travel tracksuits for the coming season, the proposed sponsor failed to meet the deadline for agreement on a deal.

Therefore, a major sponsor is now being sought for this opportunity.
