JOHN Davies has certainly had a great year around the greens of Stockport, and he currently boasts a unique record of holding all the four major sweep trophies from the past 12-month season.

Davies has won the Harry Rigby Trophy, the Frank Andrews Memorial Trophy, the Winter Merit Points Sweep and the Jim Gillespie Memorial Pairs Trophy, which he won with pairs partner Mike Bacon.

No other player has ever held all four trophies in one campaign.

Amazingly, Davies was at it again on Sunday as he won an end-of-the-month pairs sweep at Stockport Cricket Club with playing partner Mike Bacon.

In the semi-finals Keith Fantom and Phil Homer beat Grant Soller and Lee Traylor 21-19 and Davies and Bacon made short work of Gary Whittaker and Mark Bennett when they romped home 21-11.

In the final, Davies and Bacon closed out with a nine break to run out 21-15 winners against Fantom and Homer.

There was no round robin event last Wednesday owing to bad weather play, but hopefully there will be play today (Weds), from 1pm.

At the Saddleworth sweep, Len Stewart beat his brother Billy 21-15 in the final.

The consolation was won by Arthur Ward when he beat Dave Roberts 21-17.

• THE British Crown Green Bowling Association have teamed up with the Stockport Education department to include crown green bowls in six schools as part of the sports curriculum for 2007 - that can only be good news for the sport.

• DON'T forget High Lane Conservative Bowling Club hold their AGM next Wednesday, from 8pm, and all new members are welcome to attend.

• THERE are still places available at various parks across the borough for the £3,500 Stockport Parks/D&C Satellite Open competition this summer.
